How to Use a SoftTop on a Jeep® Wrangler JK
How to Use a SoftTop on a Jeep® Wrangler JK
- The first step in using your SoftTop in undoing the two latches up front
- You’ll want to unhook the sun visors and then pull up on the SoftTop latches
- They operate in a very similar fashion to the Freedom Panels
- You’ll want to pull the bottom latch off of the frame of the Jeep
- Now that we are unlatched, we’re going to put the SoftTop into what’s called Sunrider mode
- It’s much easier to do this if you step outside of the vehicle
- Push up on the front edge of the SoftTop from the inside and fold it back on itself
- This is called Sunrider mode and it’s the easiest way to use your SoftTop
- The top should have also come with two velcro straps that go around the arms of the SoftTop to keep it from moving
- We’re now going to show you how to go fully convertible with the SoftTop
- If you want to go fully convertible, you’ll need to take the windows off
- Both of the side windows come on and off the same
- Start by unzippering the window and then pulling out the plastic retainers on the bottom of the window and where it meets the door
- The back window is a little different
- There is a zipper on the driver’s side that separates in two parts, pull this all the way around the window to meet the zipper on the other side
- Give the tailgate bar a little tug to remove
- The tailgate bar can stay in the window
- Now that the windows are off it’s time to go fully convertible with the top
- On either side above the gap between the front and rear doors is a clip that attaches the SoftTop to the frame
- Unclip this on either side
- The next step is much easier with a buddy
- Grab the arms of the SoftTop and swing the top back in fully convertible
- This is where the SoftTop sits
- We recommend wrapping this with a SoftTop Strap to keep it organized
- Now we’ll show you how to put the SoftTop back on
- Again with a partner if available, swing the SoftTop back up into Sunrider position
- Attach the clips to the SoftTop above the gap in the front and rear doors
- Next we’re going to put the side windows on
- There’s a bit of a trick to putting the windows on that we’ll show you
- First, start by getting the zipper started 1-2 inches
- Then tuck the plastic retainer into the door surround
- Don’t completely zip the zipper as you won’t be able to fold the window into the door surround
- Next fold the plastic retainer into the frame on the bottom
- This is more of a push motion instead of a pull motion
- Finally, zip the zipper and attach the velcro
- Next, let’s put on the back window
- You’ll want both parts of the zipper on the left side of the window
- Push the zipper on the SoftTop all the way through to the bottom zipper and get the top zipper pull started
- Check that the bottom zipper still looks ok and continue pulling the zipper around
- Push the tailgate retainer bar into the tailgate retainer clips on either side
- We’ll then fold the two smaller plastic retainers in on either side
- Next, let’s attach the front of the SoftTop
- Fold the top back down
- You’ll need to detach the sun shades again
- The front clips can be a little tricky
- You’ll want to pull apart the top latch from the hook part of the latch
- This will give you more distance
- If you find that you’re about a half inch short, it’s probably because these two pieces of the latch need to be separated
- Attach the hook and pull the latch down
- You’re all set!
